Review: For the Love of a Vampire

For the Love of a Vampire (Blood Like Poison #1)
by M. Leighton
My Rating: 5 Stars
Summary (goodreads)

Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley's wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley's heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo's a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it's her heart. He's feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late.

The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same-with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?

My Review:
I haven't enjoyed a vampire book like this since Twilight, and if you thought Edward was cute just wait until you meet Bo!

Ridley has the envied life at school.  She is captain of the cheer squad, her boyfriend is the quarterback, and she has a spot at the cool table. But that is all a facade for the life she has at home.  When tragedy strikes her family, her mom becomes a drunk and her dad is absent, and Ridley is left with nothing but the hope of getting out!

Until...She meets her stalker.

Once Ridley meets Bo, she fall head-over-heels in love.  (not my ideal way of "love" happening, but M. makes it work!)   With Bo's help, Ridley is able to take a stand in who she is; her life finds meaning, and suddenly she looks forward to something other than getting out of town.

This vampire novel will have you hooked by the very first page ( I know I was)!  I am reading the sequel right now, and it is just killing me taking a break to write this review!  The characters are so deep and you will fall in love with them, or in Trinity's case you will loath her.  This book really took hold of my emotions.  I wanted to kill Trinity and make-out with Bo.  And when Bo announces he is dying *aghh* I almost broke down and started crying right there.

I completely, absolutely recommend this book especially if you like swooning over a good vampire read!

Review: The Understorey

The Understorey
by Fisher Amelie
Summary (goodreads)
“Let’s start this place on nonexistent fire.”

“Promise.” She sucked in an excited breath.

We closed our eyes and I placed my feverish mouth to hers. Immediately, violent, zealous flashes of shimmering flames climbed to the furthest point, trailed like rain down the pitched ceiling and spilled down the walls, gathering at their feet, pools of fervent, bubbling, silvery liquid electricity, before evaporating into nothing.

Elliott Gray is incomplete, scrambling through the dark on his hands and knees, blindly feeling for the switch it would take to bring the peace he's forever been searching for.

Julia Jacobs is unhappy, missing a noticeable piece of her soul, a naked canvas with vivid paints at her disposal but no brush to assemble the vision.

At a young age, courtesy of an unknowing Elliott Gray, Julia tastes the burn of heartache and since then, has silently vowed to her heart that it would never be susceptible to such pain again but when Julia and Elliott discover they share a supernatural connection that's never been revealed before, Elliott makes it his life's goal to convince her they are fated. He knows, if she only gave him but one chance to prove himself, she would not be afraid but when Elliott's best friend Jesse Thomas turns out to be much more than meets the eye, it's all Elliott can do to hold on to his new love, while attempting to survive an enormous threat on their future.

Review

Alrighty now I think I have wrapped my head around it...since it has been 5 months since I read the book the first time.  I think it just took me the second time through.

Okay so The Understorey was totally my favorite book of 2011...then Callum & Harper came out, and now it is my favorite, but I guess what I can say by that is Fisher is Awesome!!!!

For me to read a book twice is a pretty big deal, I just don't enjoy books twice very often, and I rarely have the time to do it,  BUT with this book it was awesome a second time.  I really loved reading Jules and Elliott's love story again, and I was able to pick up on some more of the little humorous details that I didn't see the first time through.

Now let me tell you about the Brilliance of it.

So lets talk about the Romance because if you're like me that it a pretty big deal...
I absolutely love Jules and Elliott! Elliott is the social superstar.  He could get any girl he wants, he is the football star, and he is hotttt.  Julia is the social outcast. She dresses to her own style, beats by her own drum, and she reads at lunch (LOL i love this because if my friends would let me I would too).  They were friends as kids, but now that they are in high school, they have grown apart.  Then one touch changes everything.
Oh they are just too cute how they get together and try to figure out why they have this electric touch.  YAY for the paranormal aspect of this book! I heard a few people saying how the book is slow at the beginning, but in my opinion I think it is essential for their love story.  I think the slow growing love that Jules and Elliott have in the beginning is in preparation for the intensity at the end.  It would seem a little crazy for them to be that way towards each other, if their relationship hadn't had time to develop.

Oh I mentioned before Jules & Elliott go through a lot...hello conflict...
What an awesome villain Fisher wrote, who would know that such a sweet author could write such an evil character.  He scared me out of my mind, and I had to keep reading because I knew if I slept I might have nightmares.  Let me just say once you get to a certain point close to the end you won't be putting the book down!

The majority of the book is written in Elliott's point of view which was really interesting since there just aren't many books like that!  It was especially enjoyable since Elliot was a gentleman and had that old-fashioned charm about him!  He is definitely my book boyfriend :)

I totally recommend this book if you love cute romance stories :) with a little bit of thrill at the end!!!

Why I am waiting on this book...
Well I am a part of Enchanting Book Tours and we are touring this book starting on the release date.  I'm really excited about this one because the blurb sounds great and the cover really has me interested.

Now Here is an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT of My Fairytale Life

After all the horror stories that I have heard about cafeteria food, I decided against eating lunch. I sat down at an empty table, but it wasn’t empty for long. I looked up to see three cheerleaders all standing there, staring at me.

“Well, well… look what we have here,” the first girl said in a tone that told me I chose the wrong table. She kept her blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail, curls cascading down. “What’s your name?”

“If I tell you, will you go away?” I asked hopeful.

The girl’s fake smile fell from her face. “Listen, new girl, I will let that one comment slide. Obviously you don’t know who I am yet, but consider yourself officially warned. You don’t want to mess with me.”

I laughed at her threat. “Listen, Miss I think I’m better than everybody else, you got that backwards. It’s you who shouldn’t mess with me.”

“I’m Amber, and these are my friends, Lexy and Briana,” she motioned towards the two blonde girls behind her. “This is our table, and unless you want to eat in the bathroom for the rest of your high school career, I suggest you move.”

“I’m sure the bathroom smells better than you.” One of her friends actually smiled at my joke, but quickly forced herself to stop.

“Amber,” I heard a voice from behind her and quickly recognized the guy from the locker earlier. “I see you met the new girl. She’s feisty.”

Amber rolled her eyes, but kept her mouth shut.

He quickly came over and took a seat beside me. He sat much closer than I liked, so I took that as my queue to leave. Looks like Amber gets her wish after all.

“Where are you going? I don’t even know your name yet,” the jock called after me. “I’m Jeremy.”

“Well, Jeremy, as much as I love arrogant jocks, I’ve met my quota for the day.” With that, I walked away without looking back. I decided that the cafeteria was no longer a safe place to be.

Review: Angel Evolution

Review
I get a little nervous when I get books from authors for review.  Sometimes they aren't that great.  Boy was I pleasantly surprised with this one! I didn't just like it...I Loved it, and I can't wait until I get to read the sequel.

Why I loved it you ask?
I was pretty much hooked after the first chapter.  The writing flowed throughout the book.  The characters were described in such a hilarious way it really grabbed my attention from the beginning.  Oh and then Gabriel showed up and uh yah HOT.  The great thing about the first part of the book is that I couldn't figure out if I was suppose to trust Gabriel or if he really was deceiving me *ahem* oh I meant if he really was deceiving Taylor.  Does Gabriel really have feelings for Taylor or is he just using her to get ahead?  Are the demons or the angels the bad guys?  This book had me wondering the whole time.  I didn't guess the next move before the author revealed the truth, which was very refreshing and kept me reading.  This book was definitely a different take on angel vs. demons, and the world that Estes created had me entranced.

Review: Callum & Harper

Callum & Harper
by Fisher Amelie
Summary (goodreads)
Life sucks for orphans Callum Tate and Harper Bailey.

Kicked out of their foster homes because they suffer the 'eighteen disease' with nothing but a hundred dollar check from the government and a pat on the back, they're forced to rely on a system that failed them miserably.

So they sit. They sit inside Social Services, waiting for their social workers to call their names and offer them the miracle they know will never come but they sit anyway because they have nowhere else to go, no other options on their very literal and figurative empty plates.

But as they sit, they notice the other. Although captivated, they each come to the conclusion that life is complicated enough without throwing in a boiling tension that can't ever be acted upon because they're both too busy thinking about where their next meal will come from but when their names are called and both are placed on a year long waiting list for permanent housing, suddenly relying on each other seems like a very viable plan B.

And, oh, how lovely Plan B's can be.

Well, except for the psycho from Harper's past that haunts her and, oh, yeah, there's the little issue that neither of them knows they're in love with the other.

Needless to say, Callum & Harper's life just got a bit more complicated.

“One day, you and I are gonna’ wake up and be alright. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but one day. One day. I promise you.” - Callum Tate

Review
Yah, I am FINALLY reviewing this book!  I read it about a month ago, and I haven't gotten around to reviewing it.  Not because I didn't have time, or I thought the book was bad or anything like that BUT I did have one little problem....
How do you write a review when the book is just TOO AWESOME for words?.... well here is my attempt.

I have never had this much difficulty finding words, and I even re-read the book just to try to grasp it a little bit more because I was in such love crazed daze the first time through.

Well first of all, I love Fisher Amelie, and this is probably my favorite book of 2011!

The Romance
Callum & Harper had such a sweet love.  It came out of necessity for each other when they really didn't have anything else to cling onto.  They had lost everything, but they found one another.  Callum & Harper did have that initial connection, but it didn't feel forced.  I liked how they weren't professing their love for one another after a day of knowing each other, but they did have that immediate love-at-first-sight moment.  Their relationship was just able to develop throughout the book, and it flourished with each new situation they faced together.

The Characters
Callum & Harper fit together like a completed puzzle.  They were the strength to the other's weakness.  Harper is a cheeky, trouble maker sometimes, and she just puts a lot of humor in the book.  Callum was the guy every girl swoons over.  He would do anything to protect and provide for Harper, and he is definitely the rock in the relationship.  What more can you ask for in your male lead?  I also really fell in love with Charlie and Cherry!  I'm not really one to pay attention to supporting characters, but these guys were just fun.  They were the support Callum & Harper never had before, and the relationship they have is entertaining.

I think that's all the words I can find folks!
P.S. I totally used Fisher's music muses to write this review.  They are really good, and you should check them out on her Facebook fan page linked below.
